Absolem Ringwood

PIONEER CORPORAL CIRCA 1814

Absolem was one of the many British soldiers who fought in the armies of the Duke of Wellington against Napoleon in the Spanish peninsular from 1808 to 1814. He served in the 45th Regiment of Foot as a pioneer corporal.

The presentation is in two parts. Firstly he displays items of equipment carried and worn by soldiers of the period including coinage and personal effects. The second part consists of a demonstration of weapons of the British Redcoats 1644 to 1914. These are long guns that have been used by the British army during many of its campaigns starting with the matchlock through flintlock and percussion to the bolt-action rifle of The First World War. This lively and interesting presentation lasts for around 30 minutes (the weapons presentation is available as a separate entity and can last for 30 minutes in its own right). No expense has been spared in the production of this character.
