Master Orlando Ringwood

BARBER SURGEON CIRCA 1590

Master Orlando comes from the reign of one of one of England's greatest monarchs, Queen Elizabeth the First. Since the beginning of the 16th Century surgical techniques had made great advances and practitioners were becoming more highly skilled. This was the era of great men of medicine such as Ambrose Pare; John Banister; William Clews and John Woodall.

Orlando is typical of the barber surgeons of this period. Dressed in authentic Tudor fashion he demonstrates the most up to date procedures of the time. His surgical kit is one of the finest in the country reproduced from exhaustive research into primary source material.

This character has been employed at many prestigious Tudor events throughout the country and has proved very popular.

The National Curriculum now includes study of the Tudors.
